Don’t forget that if you have a public Twitter account then anyone can read the tweets that you post. The only way to have a private conversation with one other person is to use the direct message (DM) function in Twitter. You can only send direct messages to someone if they are also following you. All of the conversation doesn’t happen in the room where the presentation is taking place. Twitter and other social media tools provide a way for you to share information about what you learn and thoughts about the topic to a wider, global audience. Live-tweeting conferences and meetings is a great way to share information that you learn or that is being discussed with a wider audience. Think of the number of people you can reach through Twitter, many of them may not be able to attend a meeting or conference but can now share in the information you are tweeting.
When live-tweeting events it is best to always include the hashtag of the event you are attending as this will help keep your tweets organized and help these tweets appear in any search streams that are picking up this hashtag.
